$The black horse of the diamond world, the 555.55 ct Fancy black Enigma diamond is getting us ready for the Halloween season 🕷️👻 Why is the Enigma so rare, valuable and well…enigmatic? - In 2004, @Sothebysjewels named the Enigma diamond as the largest fancy black natural color diamond in the world. - It is a carbonado diamond, which is an unusual polycrystalline variety of diamond. It is made up of many small diamond grains in random orientation, a property that gives carbonado an extreme toughness that was historically valued for making tools. - The numerous crystals impede light refraction and increase absorption, thus giving the stone its black appearance.- The natural conditions that form carbonado remain unclear and several theories have been proposed. A perplexing observation is that carbonado is only ever found in sedimentary deposits at Earth’s surface. Unlike other mined diamonds, it has never been found in a kimberlite or related mantle-source magma. - Some scientists have speculated that carbonado has extraterrestrial origins and that the pieces we find fell from the sky as fragments of a meteorite. - It weighs 555.55 carats and has 55 facets. The number 5 is considered auspicious in Middle Eastern culture and is associated with the Hamsa palm symbol, which represents blessings, power and strength.$
